(I wrote this poem when I was trying to convince myself that my role in my son’s life was just as
important as the role of his (adoptive) parents.)
I gave you a mouth –
They’ll help you say what you feel.
I gave you arms –
They’ll teach you to hug Cialis.
I gave you legs –
They’ll help you run after your dreams.
I gave you eyes –
They’ll teach you to look deeper.
I gave you ears –
They’ll help you listen to every word.
I gave you a heart –
They’ll teach you to love.
I gave you a life –
They’ll teach you to live it.
